Bournemouth Clocks Web Design & Content Management
Established in 1949, M C Taylor is a clock and barometer restoration, repair, sales and valuation specialist. It recently celebrated the covetable milestones of its ten thousandth customer, and its sixtieth year in horology.
Over the years, Bournemouth Clocks (by which M C Taylor is also known) has built up an enviable reputation both locally and nationally not only for its honesty and integrity, but for its expertise and experience in the field of timepiece or barometer restoration and repair. After initially consulting on other projects, Bournemouth Clock's owner asked Dusza to put together a new design for its web site.
The brief was clear: it needed to be modern in terms of its functionality, whilst being simple to operate (and update for its owners); and traditional and authoritative in appearance, without verging on austere.
To ensure the new site ably reflected the shop's standing as noteworthy specialists in high quality craftsmanship, complementary gold hues were added to the original site's colour scheme of black and deep red. Further graduated tones and highlights were added to serif type captions, headings and logos to add a further touch of class and elegance. The graduated background wallpaper pattern lends the overall look an antique-like appearance.
In terms of its function, the fundamental reason for the site re-design was to generate more enquiries, be it for sales, repairs or evaluations. To help with the latter, Dusza developed an online valuation service. With this form-based tool, customers who are not local to the high street shop can still receive qualified valuation for probate or insurance purposes. All they need to do is answer a series of simple questions about their timepiece, which are presented in an easy-to-understand form, and submit the enquiry with a photograph or two. Evaluations, or e-valuations, are sent back via e-mail for a nominal fee.
A further standard enquiry page, and a quick contact form that appears on almost every other page, has also contributed to improving upon the number of customers getting in touch via the web site.
One other noteworthy feature of the site is the stock list. Here, Bournemouth Clocks can organise its clocks, barometers and other sale items into unlimited categories, and even add buy it now PayPal functionality to the pages, where required. This has also helped to improve Bournemouth Clock's overall sales.
