Skate Sale Ecommerce Web Design & Content Management
Skate Sale is an online retailer based in Poole, Dorset that offers top quality quad, inline, aggressive skates as well as skating accessories, Heelys and Dinosoles fun shoes all, as its name suggests, at bargain sale prices.
Fanatical about providing quality goods and customer service, it was vital to Skate Sale that its e-Commerce site would be easy and enjoyable to use for its customers, but equally that the site would be robust, have little or no downtime, and help establish Skate Sale as serious competition to the market leaders.
Development of this project began with an extensive consultation where the market as a whole was investigated, looking for opportunities and analysing the strengths and weaknesses of its potential competitors. With such fierce competition in the skates market online, it was imperative that Skate Sale's web site would be in a position where it could compete effectively amongst other, larger brands. Following this initial consultancy, Dusza developed a proposal for Skate Sale's web site, and worked with the client to develop a brand name, design and structure.
The site itself utilises Dusza's Star e-Commerce system, which enables the shop owners to upload descriptions, photographs, and specify variations in colour, size and price for each of its products. There are stock and supplier management tools too, enabling the administrators to monitor levels of products from its various suppliers, and the site itself to automate which items are displayed (out of stock items can be temporarily hidden from public view). The Customer Management area of the e-Commerce system enables both the site owner, and the customers themselves, the ability to view or amend contact and order information, and track orders dispatched via courier.
Everything about the layout and structure of Skate Sale is specifically designed so that making a purchase is as simple as possible. As many as twenty of the shop's favourite or best-sellers can be included on the home page, so that within a couple of clicks, shoppers can fill their baskets and be half way through the checkout process.
As well as the product push, Skate Sale also features a "Deals of the Week" column into which any items with discounted prices may be added. To help shoppers find any other items they might be interested in, there are quick find and standard search tools (the former of which allows for searches by price, size, brand or category), and an unmissable navigation filled with over-sized, brightly coloured, product icons.
Today, in part due to the way the system is designed and programmed, and partly due to post-site search engine marketing, the Skate Sale site receives a healthy quantity of orders every day, and boasts top ten positions in Google for some quite hotly-contested key words, including "inline skates", "roller skates", "roller blades" and "ice skates".
