Pay Per Click

Pay per click (PPC) is a way of advertising on search engines. Advertisers only pay when a user actually clicks on their advertisement and subsequently visits the advertiser's website. Pay per click is also known as sponsored links and has been proven to be an extremely effective form of advertising. PPC providers (i.e. Google AdWords) distribute your adverts across an array of relevant websites.

PPC campaigns allow you to target users looking for specific information, this means that unlike traditional magazine advertising instead of obscuring information with your advert i.e. a magazine advert obscures the article a person is reading, people using search engines are actually looking for the information you are providing.

PPC works by allowing advertisers to bid on advertising positions. So for example I could bid £1 per click on the keyword 'website' for every click my advert gets I owe the PPC provider £1. This is a very crude example and in real life it's not that simple. We have not taken into account what others are bidding which could cause your advert to appear last, which might equate to less clicks. We are also not taking into account geographical location of searchers, the other keywords the searcher may have entered or the relevancy of the landing page to the keyword entered. All these things to consider and we haven't scraped the surfaces of PPC campaign optimisation, but we don't need to:
